TE Connectivity Obsoleting Voltage Sensor Relays
It has been brought to our attention that TE Connectivity is obsoleting their line of plug-in voltage sensor relays (the old Potter & Brumfield brand products).
If you are looking for an equivalent product to replace any of them, then the Macromatic VAKP Series can meet your needs. The list of obsolete TE catalog numbers with the Macromatic equivalent is shown below (click on the TE catalog number for additional information):

Here are the similarities between the two product families:
- Both operate basically the same (see graph at right): when the monitored voltage is above the pick-up setting, the relay will energize, and when the monitored voltage goes below the drop-out setting, the relay will de-energize
- Both are plug-in for use with industry-standard 8 pin octal sockets
- Both have 10A DPDT output contact ratings
But there are some differences to note, with one that is very critical to address when considering to replace the TE product with one from Macromatic:
- Pick-Up & Drop-Out Settings: two TE products (CSJ-38-71010 & CSL-38-31010) have fixed Pick-Up but adjustable Drop-Out settings. The Macromatic equivalents have both adjustable Pick-Up & adjustable Drop-Out settings. The other four TE products have both adjustable Pick-Up & Drop-Out settings similar to the Macromatic products.
- The response times for relay Pick-Up and Drop-Out on the TE products are 25ms; on the Macromatic VAKP Series, the Pick-Up response time is 100ms and the Drop-Out response time is adjustable from 0.1-10 seconds.
- Pin Configurations (IMPORTANT): the Macromatic 120VAC VAKP120A has the exact same pin configurations as the TE 120VAC CSJ-38-71010 & CSJ-38-70010 products. However, while all the DC voltage products are 8 pin with DPDT output configuration, the Macromatic products are not drop-in replacements for units from TE because most pins do not match (see the wiring diagrams below). Therefore, extensive rewiring must be done if replacing the TE product with one from Macromatic. See below for all required wiring changes.
