Current Sensing Relay Prevents Damage and Increases Safety

A manufacturer of parts washing equipment was experiencing long lead times for a current monitoring relay used in their system. They also required a more accurate relay that was easier to set-up then their current device. Macromatic provided the solution with their CAP Series Current Sensing Relay.

These washing systems have a conveyor belt that moves the parts through the washer. The current sensing relay is used to monitor the current draw on the DC motor that propels the conveyor belt.

Monitoring the conveyor operation is important to prevent damage to the belt or prevent personal injury if something were to obstruct the conveyor belt. If the current draw exceeds 1 Amp the control circuit trips and shuts down the system. The latching function of the Macromatic CAP Series Relay is used so the operator must reset the relay after a fault, which allows the operator to safely clear the jammed conveyor belt.

The OEM had used a competitor's product in the past, however they experienced long lead times and wanted a more available solution. They tried another current monitor relay product and found that product wasn’t accurate enough for the application and it was difficult to set up.

The OEM tested and approved the Macromatic CAP10AD62. Success factors included:

• The Macromatic was a functional direct replacement for the competitor's product.
• The CAP series adjustments are on top of the relay which provides easy access and set up, compared to the  adjustments on the side of the device on the competitor's relay.
• The Macromatic product is manufactured in the USA and and ships in 10 working days ARO. The competitor's product is manufactured in China and can have lead times up to 180 days.
• The distributor supporting this account used standard distributor net pricing to provide the CAP10AD62 at a price level below other less effective products.
