Using the 70166 Hold-Down Spring
Issue:
How do you use the 70166 hold-down (tie-down) spring on the Macromatic 70169-D or 70170-D sockets when mounting the socket with two screws on a panel? What about when mounting the sockets on 35mm DIN track?
Solution/Resolution:
To use when panel-mounting the socket, put one screw through the end of the spring and then through one of the socket mounting holes. Tighten the screw into the panel. Repeat the process for the other mounting hole. Then after plugging the product into the socket, stretch the spring over the top of the unit.
Depending on the style of 35mm DIN track used, the Macromatic hold-down spring can be used with our sockets. You will need two 8-32 x 3/4 machine screws with washers & nuts (see close-up bottom). Put one screw through the end of the spring and then through one of the socket mounting holes. Slip on the washer and then tighten the nut. Repeat the process for the other mounting hole. Then after plugging the product into the socket, stretch the spring over the top of the unit. Make sure there is enough clearance between the bottom of the bolt/nut and the track so that the socket can be mounted onto the track.
Either mounting style allows you to remove the plug-in product without having to remove the spring from the socket simply by stretching the spring first.
